What ’s the rarest Leica ever? It could be this Leica Luxus II, a limited edition gold plated version of the 1932 Leica II, the first screw-mount Leica with a built-in coupled rangefinder. According to the factory only 4 Luxus IIs were ever made. The one pictured, serial number 88840 with a gold finished 50mm f/3.5 Elmar lens, sold in Hong Kong in 2013 for a cool $624,015 including the original crocodile case. The whereabouts of the other 3 are unknown. If one turns up at your local garage sale, chances are it’s a fake, but hey, you never know!
